About the event

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) has awarded MITS funding to provide students the opportunity to earn scholarships that cover tuition for the 60-hour course and continuing education.

We sincerely thank everyone who helped make this possible, especially the OHA and the State of Oregon for their commitment to language access and community health.

Scholarship Goal

  This program aims to support the growth and retention of healthcare interpreters across Oregon.

Training programs that may be awarded

Selected indivuals may receive any of the following traing programs: 

  • Online 60-hour courses for Spanish interpreters and interpreters of all other languages
  • Online 24-hour continuing education courses for Spanish interpreters and interpreters of all other languages
  • Individual continuing education courses

Please note that no monies will be distributed directly to recipients. Scholarships provide tuition coverage only, granted as access to the training program.

Scholarship Timeline

Application cycle opens on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at 8:00 a.m. (Pacific Time).

Deadline: Scholarships will continue to be awarded until all allocated funds have been disbursed.

Selected scholarship recipients will be notified within 10 days of submitting their application.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Must be a current resident of the State of Oregon.
  • Must have a high school level of education as a minimum.
  • Must speak English and another language at a very advanced level.
  • Must be interested in obtaining Oregon Healthcare Interpreter qualification.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.

Application Requirements

For the 60-hour program:

  • Fill out and submit the application form (download below)
  • Submit your high school or college diploma. Transcripts are also accepted. (Translation of non-english documents is required)
  • Submit proof of Oregon residency (e.g., Oregon ID, school ID, copy of lease or mortgage)
  • Write an English essay of 300-500 words that answers the following three (3) questions:
  1. Why is the applicant interested in taking this course?
  2. What does the applicant wish to accomplish in his/her career?
  3. Why does the applicant deserve the scholarship?

For Conintuing Education:

  • Fill out and submit the application form (download below)
  • Submit a copy of your OHA letter of qualification
  • Submit proof of Oregon residency

Application Submission Process

The scholarship application form and all the requirements mentioned above should be emailed to scholarship@mitsemail.com in PDF format in one email only.

 A MITS representative will confirm that your application has been received; however, we will not request missing documentation or additional information. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

If you are selected, you will be required to sign an agreement confirming that you will follow the terms and conditions of this scholarship.

Evaluation Process

MITS scholarships are merit-based competitive awards. The MITS scholarship team will evaluate all eligible applications and select the winners based on the criteria below:

  • Answers in the application – 25%
  • Complete documentation – 25%
  • Essay – 50%

Frequently Asked Questions

No, unfortunately, this scholarship is only available to interpreters in Oregon, as it is funded by the Oregon Health Authority.

At this time, MITS is not able to fund scholarships for interpreters in other states.

Immediately! If you are selected, we will send you an email with a special code so you can enroll as soon as you’re ready. However, if you do not enroll within two weeks of receiving your access code, your scholarship will be forfeited.

Any application received before or after the announced dates will not be reviewed.

While I will have access to the course for 12 months, we strongly advise yout to complete the training program within 6 months from the date of my enrollment.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The minimum timeframe to complete the 60-hour training course is 10 days, and students may not complete more than eight hours of content per day. Due to the intensity of the material, MITS will not issue a certificate sooner than 10 days after registration or to students who attempt to complete more than eight hours per day.

The essay must be written in English.

Any foreign-language document must have an English translation attached.
