About the 40-hour programs
General

To successfully complete these courses you are going to need:

  • An internet connection and a reliable device (computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone). MITS works with all browsers; however, we recommend you have more than one browser installed on your device, e.g., Google Chrome, Firefox, Explorer, Microsoft Edge, or Safari (Mac)
  • A voice-recording device to do your interpreting exercises (required). Nowadays, most smartphones have this capability. Your recordings will be used in class only to assess your interpretations. You won’t need to send them to us.
  • Notebooks, pens, and highlighters.
  • Headphones or earbuds (optional).
  • A printer (optional). You will be able to download all your material in PDF format. You can print or save on your computer.

Yes, you will receive a final certificate of completion for the 40-hour training program so that you can apply to take the national exam or for a job.  The certificate will be emailed to you within 48 hours after your request and verification of your successful completion is established.

Certificates for continuing education courses are immediately available for download after passing the final quiz.

No, there is not. You will receive your final certificate  after successfully completing all the lessons, exercises, and quizzes in the course. The testing is spread throughout the program  in form of dozens of quizzes that you need to pass with a minimum score of 70%. You can retake these quizzes as many times as you need to achieve the minimum score. No extra fees involved.

Yes, you can. However, a desktop or laptop would be more convenient and practical to handle the media files.

Of course, you can write or call your instructor at any time. You can also make an appointment to chat over the phone, Skype, FaceTime, etc. No limits!

We pride ourselves on providing outstanding support and customer service. We will provide technical support related to the usability, format, navigation, and interface of the website content. However, MITS cannot offer technical support for telecommunications, internet connection, hardware, personal equipment malfunction, or for any other technical issue outside of MITS’ control.

To be able to move to the next lesson you will be required to score a minimum of 70% on the quiz.  If you don’t pass on your first attempt, you can retake the quiz after reviewing your attempt and wrong answers.

The quizzes are based only on the content covered in the class, so there are no surprises.

Unfortunately, we don’t have any available funds or grants to assist with the payment of any these courses. MITS is a private school that offers a certificate-of-completion program, and therefore, it doesn’t qualify for financial aid from the federal government as it is in the case of colleges and universities.

Some employers may have a tuition assistance program in place. If you need this course to improve the performance of your job and benefit your employer, they may be able to assist you or reimburse you.

Because MITS courses are not RID approved, they fall into the PINRA category. You will be able to earn CEUs if an approved sponsor approves the courses before you start. (PINRA).

About CEUs

You will receive 4 hours of credit per course. For the NBCMI this is 0.4 CEUs and for CCHI this is 4 CE hours (performance-based).

There’s a little misunderstanding as to what a CEU is. One CEU (continuing education unit) consists of 10 hours of continuing education training. Thus, one hour of training equals 0.1 of continuing education unit (CEU). To earn one CEU, you need to take 10 hours of training.

If you are certified by the National Board, you need 3 CEUs (30 hours) every five years. The NBCMI uses the CEU system.

If you are certified by CCHI, you need 32 hours every 4 years, (not 32 CEUs = 320 hours). CCHI does not use CEU system.

Each of the MITS courses is 4 hrs (0.4 CEUs) or 4 CE hours.

For more information, consult with your certifying organizations.

Yes, all MITS CEU courses are accredited and approved by the Certification Commission of Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI), Continuing Education Accreditation Program (CEAP), The National Board of Certification for Medical interpreters (CCHI), International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) and American Translators Association (ATA).

When you buy a package of courses, you are basically buying a few courses in a bundle at a discounted price. Four courses amount to 16 hours of training and eight courses to 32 hours.

Normally, if you buy a single 4-hour course, you will pay $80. But if you buy a package, you pay only $62.50 per course.

After you purchase the package, you will receive a coupon code to choose the courses you want to take. This coupon code will give you 100% discount on the selected course because you already paid for it. Detailed instructions will be provided.

You will then have three months to complete the course you enrolled in. However, your coupon code will not expire until you use it to select your last course. You should redeem one at a time (after completing the course).

For example: If you buy a 16-hour package in March, you can redeem your first course in March, the second one in July, the third one in December, and the last one in April the following year. It’s up to you when you want to take them. However, the course you enrolled in March will expire in June, the one you enrolled in July will expire in October, and so on.

Most smartphone today have voice recording capabilities. On an iPhone for example, you can find an application called voice memos. If you can’t easily find it, it may be nested into the Extras app. Other devices come with this feature too. If you don’t have one, you can download one from the many free options in your app store.

You can also purchase a classic digital recorder online. A decent recorder that will do the job may range from 25 to 50 dollars.

Please make sure to get very familiar with your recording device to avoid delays, complication, and frustration.

All your certificates are saved on your dashboard.
